RICHARD M. WOLFE (CA. 1730–1824)

Richard Maurice Wolfe was born about 1730, at Templeathea in western County Limerick. He was the son of Maurice James Wolfe, a Catholic farmer, and Kathleen Rearden (also Riordan) Wolfe. He had four siblings: James Maurice (b. 1732), Edmond Maurice, Patrick, and Maurice James (b. ca. 1763). 

Wolfe’s father was a wealthy farmer who, in March 1760, purchased 2,000 acres of land, which constituted the entire townland of Cratloe, in County Limerick, about 65 kilometers from Templeathea. Wolfe inherited that property after his father’s death in 1792. At some point he married Ellen O’Sullivan. They had at least two sons, Maurice Richard (b. 1778) and Edmond Richard (b. 1788), and a daughter, Margaret "Peggy James" (d. 1874).

Wolfe died on October 11, 1824, and is buried at Templeathea.
